Dear lazyweb, What is this song? The main theme goes: 1 2 3 2 2 3 3 2 3 4 2 3 5 2 3 6 2 3 7 2 3 8 2 3 . . G2 C3 . D3 D#3 . F3 G3 . . G3 . G3 G#3 . . G#3 . G#3 G3 . . 9 2 3 10 2 3 11 2 3 12 2 3 13 2 3 14 2 3 15 2 3 16 2 3 . . G3 F3 . . F3 . F3 D#3 . F3 D#3 . . D3 . . D3 . D3 C . . (I can probably work out more of the melody if needed) It's about a river (I think) who's name starts with V. Vo? Volsen? Vorgon? Composer unknown... It's a "classical piece". Not sure of the period. It starts out with flutes playing sort of fluttery stuff. --- Life? Up and down. Up and down. P.S. if you can tell me how to make the melody Fixed Width, I'll do so.

The ol' Creative Sound Blaster Live! Value has served me well over the years and the kx drivers opened up a lot of possibility. I picked up an M-Audio Audiophile 2496 on special at kosmic sound. Maybe there's been a price cut with new models coming out. Running the two soundcards side-by-side and swapping, the difference is incredible. It's so beautiful to my ears. I've noticed very good performance at low latencies and whatevs. But... I think I've been spoilt by such good third party drivers in the past. Where have all my virtual ASIO ins and outs gone?! No biggie, I can moving my output mixing back into software... sigh. I was hoping there'd be some on-hardware DSP to play with, something a bit more open. It is an "entry level" card though. So, that was a bit of disappointment, losing the flexibility I was used to. But, 24-bit, 96kHz is an absolute delight. Is it psychological, or does it actually sound better? Don't care. :P What else is happening? I'm moving across to the other side of the country for 6 weeks (work). This will mean I'm in the same Time Zone as girlfriend, and only 3 hours flight away... instead of umm, 6 hours. I'll be getting some more money for the trouble, and being taken care of, etc. Should be alright, but don't know many people over there at all. Underground electronic scene? No idea. For buzzers not in the know: New Buzz Clone Here: http://www.batman.no/buze/ I think it's safe to plug this now, as the project has gained a buzzlib license. ... The modern day buzz modular studio is hacks upon hacks upon hacks and yet there's no other tracking/production software that approaches it in my opinion. Am I just being closed-minded? Maybe I should start considering using expensive, hyped, do-it-all-for-you software. Beast, pd, psycle, you say? Well... maybe another day. klipf Another plug: YAWF (Yet Another Web Framework), Tang: http://www.inomial.com.au/tang/index.htm

Based completely on myth's recount of a sigur ros gig*, I decided today to go see them on Sunday. An unsoldout sigur ros gig 2 days before they play? Incredible! Meanwhile, I've been getting into the swing of work... My girlfriend has moved country: 4.5 hours away. This was 3 months ago, and whilst she's been down to visit me most weekends (in the city), I only managed for the first time to make the trip her way. She's got a good lifestyle going on, ocean views, good weather, good friends. I might've posted this before, but a poorly mixed liveset lives here: http://www.buzzmusic.de/index.php?i http://www.buzzmusic.de/index.php?i There's a few stuffups, but a few gold moments as well. Listening to the ideas here a few months later, I realise I do like the music I write. Ahyeh, I'm back from India. (tee hee) * - also, my sister likes em. - also, (bar the track name) olsenolsen - also, I didn't know they were coming until today. - ICELAND SPACEROCK - actually, this isn't the real myth sigur ros post I was looking for... So, I'm feeling a bit anxious and a bit excited and a bit of everything really going to India tomorrow. So the gig. The pub atmosphere was okay. It was quieter than usual. It was cold and wet outside, so I'll blame it on that! Two PCs (laptop+desktop) and a mixer. Positives: - People got into some of the new stuff which was great :D - $70 + two pints. - A few randoms came, and this dude who's another random Perth buzzer rocked up too, which was cool. Negatives: - It's hard getting the levels right live with one person trying to do two other things at once! D'oh. - More level stuffups. :( - Laptop-buzz-session died midway through set. Luckily the desktop I took a risk and loaded another session of the software on the desktop while it was outputting through mixer. It paid off, but it was a little scary! - Quieter crew than I'd like, and a few people left early. MEME (thanks orb. :P) 5 (five) favourite songs? In no particular order: Herbie Hancock - Chameleon Awesome groove and super-psychedelic organ solos. There's a reason it's my mobile phone ringtone. Mellow-D (md) - Opera.xm (from the blur.green EP) ~8 minute darkish breaky electroy ambienty tune available at scene.org if you look hard enough. (It's hiding in this zip file.) md is a big influence for me, and this tune still blows me away. James Brown - I Got You (I Feel Good) OW! radiohead - airbag (Ok Computer) You know? Some rAndom guy recommenDed the AlbuM I think, so I went and got it. And I can remember listening to this the first time, I think it was in headphones. It was loud and felt like it was gonna fall apart and I fell asleep to it many times. This last one was hard... Nahnotanymore. I played this piece for a piano exam, and I still love it. Chopin's Au Claire de Lune. So delicate, so beautiful, so adventurously _musical_.

Aphex Twin + Luke Vibert, we were front-row-center. I reckons Salmonella Dub were better though! I am buggered, but feel enriched. Gerling weren't as good as last time :( 1200 Techniques were cool, but difficult to see. Nothing I wanted to see was on the main stages, but I caught a little of "Muse" which seem really big though I hadn't heard much about them at all. Metallica would have been absolutely insane, so saw some briefly from afar, but otherwise passed over. Our first attempt at reaching the main stage stopped all future attempts. We made it barely halfway through the crowd before giving up (for the Black Eyed Peas). SO many people, and Perth would be one of the smaller BigDayOuts. Public transport was PACKED ANYWAY, FUN.

"BOATS ARE FUN" or "AN AWESOME WEEKEND" by Sam
|
With special thanks to: Nitin and friends. The owners of the 4WD. The boat guy. Cousins for various provisions. This weekend I figured I'd just hang out at home watch DVDs, whatever. So anyway, my mate doing work experience at Pt Hedland came over to Karratha with the plan of taking two boats and his 9 friends out fishing. I was tasked with finding a 4WD or vehicle with a towbar for one of the boats. I wasn't planning on staying with them, but as usual, plans often change. They rocked up noonish in Karratha, and I took them to the shopping center. After much messing around and a few hours we had the boats and provisions: Esky full of ice... Water, breakfast, dinner, lunch and beverages of assorted alcoholic nature. Problem was, they could no longer launch at Dampier and camp on the islands, since the water was too choppy -- just too dangerous. So I suggested a place on the mainland with some good camping spots. So now I was involved, having made the plan. We took the boats out to "Cleaverville" and launched them, no worries. One guy staked out a campsite, while we tried to reach it from the beach on the boats. THIS WAS A MISTAKE :D We flooded the boats, almost losing the fuel tanks and battery, while trying to beach the vessels! Lucky we didn'thave many valuables on board... car keys, etc... which thankfully stayed mostly dry. It took 10 of us to relaunch the damn thing, trying simultaneously to keep the battery dry, the fuel tanks in place, the engine started and the bilge pump running. Once they were both in the water, one of the boats stopped working! So being in the working boat we started towing them back... A slow process, I can tell you! And the sun was setting, so it was a race against time. We made it back with 20 minutes of sun left (thankfully). We took the incapacitated boat out of the water, and went cruising through the mangroves while the sun set. Quite a sight, I CAN TELL YOU. green groves against blackred mounts against blue-through-orange sky. SEAFOOD SUBS, FRESH FRUIT, followed by SCOTCH and starry nights, followed by BEER and shit-talking, followed by sleep. Also, minimal mosquito invasion was appreciated! In the morning we tried to fix, then returned the broken boat... but left it at the rental place, until it was repaired. I helped them launch the remaining boat at the Dampier ramp, while they went round the islands. Meanwhile I drove home and did some laundry, slept for 4 hours or so. Picked them up, since they got the second boat running and launched. They'd been out to the islands, cruised around... Visited the hermit on "Sam's island". :D so we returned the boats, having used ~$60 fuel on the boats. :O And THEN.... Dinner (awesome Fish and Chips) from Moby's at Point Sampson. All in all a fine weekend. THE END Current Mood:

Dealing with disappointment.
|
Are all AAA batteries created equal? Or are some more equal than others. I got the coolest Christmas present, a little mp3 walkman/usb-drive dealie. JetFlash, Solid-state, 128MB, runs on one AAA battery. It doesn't have any fancy format support, only MP3+WAV, which is a bit of a bummer, but I can deal with that. I can sort myself out with some rechargeable batteries, that wont be a problem as such, but... It seems to last only a fraction of the advertised battery life. The first battery seemed to last pretty much continuous for 10ish hours. I'm HOPING it's because the batteries I've been using aren't fully charged when I've put them in. I'm worried that its "cheap-and-dodgy-company"-nature may inhibit my warranty claims, if the need arises. More investigation is required of course, and I will buy a brand new pack of batteries of the brand that came with it tomorrow? today? Also, tonight on RTRFM 92.1 (1AM->6AM), it didn't sound like POWER JAM!? Current Mood: over-tired

Two buzztracker sessions. Some pre-rendered trash, some live improvisation. Normally we have an okay mixer and can cue up a new track and mix it in NO WORRIES. We fade in the individual parts. Bassline and Drumbeat, Ambience, Synths, Samples. Beat mixing with 100ms delay is hard. Beat mixing with no headphones is harder :) But we did okay, it sounded kinda shit today. the mixer was no fun especially without headphones. So there was some production going on. We're still searching for a solid sound. But it was mostly crap since the mixer didn't send individual channels to the headphones. I may purchase a new 5 channel mixing desk from "Kosmic Sound, Perth Western Australia, online music stores" for AU$140. Though it worries me that all inputs are large jacks, rather than RCA. I don't really know what's better or what. It may just be compatibility and tidiness. So anyway, figures that we run into troubles on the night Tim has off work. He crashes at 11:30, and admittedly I'm tired too, but I still had another 3 beers to go. So anyway, I drive mums car home at 11:30. It was safe (those beers are in the fridge). I pull into the driveway just as some dickhead is rummaging through MY car still parked in the driveway. He gets on his bike and pedals off slowish, smiling to himself. (blue cap, facial hair, old mountain bike). Nothing stolen, nothing (more) is broken so I figure I just forgot to lock the door. A little shaken, I'm hesitant to get out of the car to open the garage door (since the remote control is busted). As I shut the garage door, mum scares the crap out of me. She's checking out the noise downstairs since I called home from the car, getting her out of bed. Gave a description to the police so they can keep an eye out. Who knows what else this character got up to. Got the neighbours to shut their garage door (no bikes stolen), since we could see they were awake. It's been happening a lot to me lately, the "I'm going to bed now, get out" thing. Maybe I missed the signal. I do appreciate the honesty and don't think it rude or anything. I myself have been rightly accused of piking on an evening's entertainment in the past. No one tries to be a hypocrite. But I was disappointed. I did drift off to sleep for 5 minutes (I think) after finishing my beer, listening to Lewis' "Mere Christianity", before leaving. I'm beginning to understand why some people get annoyed when predetermined plans change. Last time I got thrown out so SHE could get some sleep. (NOTHING SUSS). It reminds me of The Sims, how you can send your Sims to bed, but guests just hang around for an hour like nothing's wrong, and let themselves out. Maybe we should base all social norms on a The Sims equivalent. The automobile adventure activated adrenaline has worn off. Current Mood: shaken NOT STIRRED

|
See me in 2 days. To clear that up. Road trip with uni-mate to Karratha + Pt.Hedland I'm working Karratha, he's working Hedland. We both arrived safely. It was a nice cruise in his old comfy Merc, plenty of room. BUT the aircon died halfway there. For those that don't know, Karratha is ~1300km north of Perth, I guess in the middle of a desert of red rocks and spinifex. It's damn hot this time of year. So combined leather interior and lack of air/con meant a windy drive :) Anyway, I'll be here for 2 weeks at least, perhaps even a month.
